Law Enforcement Guidelines
How officers and government agencies can request account records from MeIntoYou, what legal process each category of data requires, and how emergency and preservation requests are handled.

1.Who this page is for
This page is for law enforcement officers and government agencies seeking account records from MeIntoYou. It is not legal advice, and it does not replace or waive any requirement of applicable law.
If you are a member of the public trying to report something, use the contact page or the in-app report flow instead — those reach our safety team far faster than this channel.
2.How to submit a request
Send requests from an official government email domain to meintoyouapp@gmail.com with LAW ENFORCEMENT REQUEST in the subject line. Attach the signed legal process as a PDF.
Include, at minimum:
- The issuing agency, the officer's name, badge or ID number, and direct contact details.
- The legal authority relied on, and the signed process itself.
- Specific account identifiers — the account email address, the user ID, or the exact profile name. A screenshot of a profile alone is usually not enough to identify an account.
- A precise date range. Requests for "all data" with no bounds will be narrowed or refused.
- Whether a non-disclosure obligation applies, and its legal basis and duration.
3.What process is required
We disclose account records only where we are legally required or permitted to do so. The level of process required scales with the sensitivity of what is being asked for:
- Basic subscriber information — registration email, account creation date, and the most recent connection records: a subpoena, court order, or equivalent legal instrument valid in our jurisdiction.
- Non-content records — for example message metadata such as timestamps and participants: a court order or equivalent.
- Content — message contents and uploaded media: a search warrant issued on probable cause, or the equivalent under a mutual legal assistance treaty.
Requests from outside our jurisdiction generally need to come through an MLAT or letter rogatory unless an emergency exception applies.
4.Emergency disclosure requests
Where there is a good-faith belief of an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury — including risk to a child — we can review and respond to an emergency request without waiting for full legal process.
Use the same address with EMERGENCY DISCLOSURE REQUEST in the subject line, and state clearly: the nature of the emergency, the person at risk, why the requested data will help, and why it cannot wait for standard process. Emergency requests are triaged ahead of everything else in the queue.
5.Preservation requests
If you need records held while you obtain legal process, send a preservation request with PRESERVATION REQUEST in the subject line and the account identifiers.
We will preserve a snapshot of the available records for 90 days, extendable once on a further written request. Preservation is not disclosure — the data stays with us until valid process arrives.
Preservation is worth sending early: a user who deletes their account starts a deletion clock that preservation stops.
6.What we do and do not hold
We can only produce what exists. Retention is described in the Privacy Policy, and in general:
- Deleted accounts are removed on the schedule set out in that policy, absent a preservation request.
- We do not retain data we never collected, and we cannot reconstruct deleted content.
- Conversations moved off MeIntoYou — to another messaging app, at either party's suggestion — are not ours and are not available from us.
7.Notifying the account holder
Our default is to notify a user before disclosing their data, so they have the opportunity to object. We will not notify where we are legally prohibited from doing so, or where notice would create a risk of harm to a child, a victim, or an investigation — including child-safety matters and cases involving credible threats.
8.Child safety matters
Child sexual abuse and exploitation cases are handled with the highest priority and without user notice. Our substantive policy and reporting commitments are on the Child Protection & Safety and CSAE Safety Standards pages.
