Dating Safety Tips
What to watch for while you are chatting, how romance scams actually work, and how to make a first date safe. Written to be useful on any dating app, not only this one.

1.While you are still chatting
- Keep it in the app at first. Moderation, reporting, and any record of what was said only exist while the conversation is on MeIntoYou. Someone pushing hard to move to WhatsApp or Telegram in the first few messages is asking you to step outside the safety net, and they usually know it.
- Hold back the identifying details. Your employer, your street, your school, your daily route. These are fine to share with someone you have come to trust; they are not opening pleasantries.
- Reverse-search the photos. A stolen photo set will often turn up elsewhere on the internet under a different name in seconds.
- Ask for something live.A short video call, or a photo of something specific and current. A real person can do this easily. An account running someone else's photos cannot, and will produce a reason instead.
- Trust the mismatch. Fluent in chat but never available to speak; deeply in love within a week; a story that shifts slightly each time it is told. Note it rather than explaining it away.
2.Money: the one rule that never bends
Never send money, gift cards, airtime, crypto, or account details to someone you have met online. Not for a plane ticket, not for a customs fee, not for a medical emergency, not for an investment opportunity that is closing tonight.
Romance fraud is patient and follows a shape you can learn to recognise:
- Fast, intense affection that arrives before you have actually met.
- A reason they can never video call, and a reason the meeting keeps slipping.
- A crisis — usually medical, legal, or travel — that only money resolves.
- An investment or trading platform they want to "teach" you, often crypto.
- Small requests first, to establish that you will say yes.
Nobody who genuinely wants to meet you needs your bank details to do it. If money comes up, report the account and stop responding — you owe them no explanation.
3.Photos, sextortion, and pressure
A common attack is not romance at all: it is a fast escalation to intimate images, followed by a demand for money and a threat to send those images to your contacts.
- Treat urgency around images as a red flag in itself — real interest is not on a timer.
- If it has already happened, do not pay. Paying identifies you as someone who pays, and the demands continue.
- Screenshot the profile and the conversation, then report and block.
- Report it to your local police as well. This is a crime, not an embarrassment.
Sharing or threatening to share intimate images without consent gets an account permanently removed from MeIntoYou.
4.Meeting in person
- Public, busy, and your choice of venue. A café, a restaurant, a bar with staff in it. Not their home, not yours, not a first date.
- Tell someone. A friend gets the name, the profile, the venue, and the time. Agree on a message you will send when you get home.
- Arrange your own transport, both ways. Being able to leave when you want is most of what makes a first date safe.
- Keep your drink with you and do not accept one you did not see poured or handed over.
- Keep your phone charged and keep your bag and keys on you rather than at the table.
- Leave if you want to leave. You do not need a reason, a polite exit line, or their agreement. "I'm going to head off" is a complete sentence.
5.Meeting someone from another city or country
- Book your own accommodation, and do not stay with someone you have not met.
- Keep your passport, phone, and money on you rather than with them.
- Share your itinerary and your live location with someone you trust at home.
- Check the entry rules and local emergency numbers before you fly, not after.
- Never let anyone else hold your travel documents, whatever the reason offered.
6.If something goes wrong
- If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services first. Reporting to us is the step after you are safe.
- Block, then report. Blocking is immediate and does not wait on our review.
- Keep what you have. Screenshots, usernames, phone numbers, payment references. These are what make an investigation possible.
- Tell us what happened, in the app or at meintoyouapp@gmail.com. A report about someone who has already left the app still protects the next person.
None of what happened is your fault for having used a dating app. People who do this are practised, and they are practised because it works often enough.
7.What MeIntoYou does on its side
Safety is not only advice pointed at you. Moderation, reporting flows, and the enforcement ladder are described in Trust & Safety, and the rules everyone agreed to are in the Community Guidelines.
